 | Determination Of Heir in Boyd Estate Sought - Honolulu Star-Bulletin - 9 Jun 1948 - Page 20 "Whether a Masonic school in Sydney, Australia, is entitled to the bulk of the estate of the late Joseph Thompson Boyd of Honolulu will be determined at hearings scheduled to begin June 26 before Circuit Judge Willson C. Moore ... He left an estate of $135,000 here and property worth $15,000 in Australia. An official of the Hawaiian Trust Co. estimated that total assets have increased to nearly $200,000. Mr. Boyd's will provides that after the death of other heirs, the estate goes to trustees of the Edith Boyd memorial trust fund in care of the N.S.W. Masonic school in Sydney. However, in a petition filed in circuit court, the Hawaiian Trust Co. asserts 'a substantial doubt exists as to whether ... the Edith Boyd memorial trust fund was ever created.' ... Pratt, Tavares & Cassidy, attorneys for 13 Australians who claim to be trustees of the fund, submitted photostatic copies of 35 letters written by them and Mr. Boyd in an effort to prove the existence of the fund." | East Bank Cemetery, East London, South Africa Status: Located; Anne Clarkson of http://www.family-research.co.za kindly took these photographs for us.
She indicated in her e-mail, "Just a quick email to say I am in East London and have just come back from the East Bank Cemetery, where I found Francis Wilson's grave. It has a small plaque reading Francis Wilson, Seaman. Luckily I managed to organise an escort from the Municipality. There are big signs at the cemetery entrance warning people that it is not safe to enter alone, and I wouldn't have dared to go in without my brawny escort, who looked bloodthirsty enough himself and was armed with a large crowbar!
"I was quite glad to have the crowbar-wielding chap with me, because while I was searching for the grave two rather scary looking characters came slinking out of the bushes. They turned tail and fled when my chap yelled at them in Xhosa and brandished his weapon. Looking at the photo of the cemetery it looks so peaceful!
"The graves are tidy enough, and the grass had recently been mown."

 | Edith Wyser – Register of Admissions to the Destitute Asylum This document, from the collection of the State Records of South Australia, shows Edith Wyser, "native born," age 14 1/2 years, sentenced to the reformatory school in Magill "until she shall attain the age of 18 years as an uncontrollable girl." It appears that her father arranged for her admission, and that they lived at the time on Grenfell Street, Adelaide. The "recommendation" column reads "Magistrates Mandate" - she was admitted on a magistrate's order. (This was read in 2009 as a magistrate named "Masedale"; a closer reading in Oct 2026 shows it is the word "Mandate", not a name.) Her religion is entered as "Ch. Engd" (Church of England).
Admission was on 27 Nov 1882. The "time of leaving" column reads "Dec 23/82" and the "where goes to" column reads "Released on petition" (the word Cathy Bushby could not read in 2009) - so after less than a month someone, presumably her family, petitioned successfully for her release.
