"I went up to the Whitehaven record office earlier this week with our nephew. We found a book recording the 'monuments' from St. Bees cemetery that had been removed when the area was grassed over to make the graveyard easier to maintain. Looking through the booklet I found an entry relating to the Bushby family. It had been added in on a separate page, indicating, possibly, that it had been difficult to read or that it was found after the bulk of the monuments were catalogued. It was number 32 and a gap was left in the chronological order indicating that it was missing at the time of writing.
At the top of the inserted page was written LATIN which one of the staff in the office thought could have indicated that there had been an inscription in Latin that was indecipherable.
Underneath this was:-
James Busby died June 9th 1844 age 47. (Bolding is mine indicating different spelling )
Jane the wife of the above died Jan. 2nd 1875 age 71
Also John their son died Sept 4th 1863 age 28

Misses Leah and Rachel Cole and Mamie Pickett were joint hostesses Wednesday evening at the home of the latter on Pickett road at a hearts dice party honoring Mrs. Boyd G. Brogden, who before her marriage was Miss Margaret Davis, and Mrs. H. Floyd Pickett, who prior to her marriage was Miss Annie Pearl Crumpler, of Salemburg.
The home was beautifully decorated with a profusino of summer flowers, carrying out a color scheme of yellow and white.
After a number of progressions in hearts dice, the high score was presented to Miss Ruby Pickett and the consolation prize was given to Mrs. Vernon Pope.
A delicious ice course with accessories was served, after which the honorees were each presented with a miscellaneous shower.

She was a Sewing Instructor between 1950 and 1953 in Singer Sewing Machine Company, Durham, NC. She died on 7 Mar 1954 in Durham, Durham County, NC.(4) Death Certificate: "Died from generalized carcinomatosis commenced 3 months prior to death at Duke Hospital at 1:25 am. Metastatic Carcinoma of ovary commenced one year prior to death."
Was troubled with pain in her right ovary for several years. Was treated by Dr. Bayard Carter. She had trouble with bladder infection at intermittent intervals for several years. Treated by Dr. Aleya and Dr. Hare. Pain and slight swelling in lower abdomen in June, July, and August 1953. Had exploratory operation at Duke Hospital by Dr. Grimson on 17 August 1954. Found her abdominal cavity and organs full of cancerous growths and a tumor growing in bottom of pelvis. Removal was out of the question. Took full course of X-ray therapy on abdomen, front and back. Took course of TEM medicine under Dr. Rundles and another course of X-ray therapy. Had bad case of penicillin reaction on arms and legs. Treated and cleared up by Dr. Calloway in about three weeks. Had much trouble with hemorrhoids -- very painful. Dr. Grimson took off the largest dilated rectum. Had fluid in abdominal cavity taken out three times, 4300 cc, 5000 cc, 3000 cc. Spent fifty-seven days in hospital in all -- five different occasions. At first, was able to take several weekend trips. Got so weak and thin, she was unable to go out. Weight came down to about a hundred pounds. Last trip to hospital she got so weak that she couldn't eat and digest anything at all. Had glucose put in veins as long as the doctors could strike veins. Suffered very much. For the last two weeks, she had longer and longer periods of being out of her head. Drugs began to lose their effect during the last two weeks. She had an especially terrible time on Saturday night, February 28. Was very loud and couldn't be quieted by four maximum doses of narcotic. Became weaker and thinner. On 4 March at 6:00 p.m., Dr. Grimson said she was in a comfortable coma and wouldn't live more than twenty-four to forty-eight hours. Woke up last day - Saturday, March 6, feeling pretty well. Tried to eat a little breakfast, but couldn't swallow it. Sat up on edge of bed some. Began to talk out of her mind about eleven o'clock. Talked the same words over and over -- "Yes, No, Yes, No, forgive me, no, that's not right, wait a minute." Took five maximum dose shots of morphine from 11:30 A.m. till 11:00 p.m. Had movements of typical dope fiend. Eyes, mouth, tongue, hands, head movements. Breathing became slower and slower. Quiet last two hours. Died 1:26 a.m. March 7.
[from Henry Floyd Pickett's personal diary] 15 October 1937 Had tonsils removed. 20 July 1948 Had painful attack in back and stomach. Went to hospital the next day for exam. Couldn't find anything definite wrong. 18 March 1950 Annie Pearl too sore to go visiting. 21 March 1950 Carried Annie Pearl for examination by Dr. Odom. Couldn't find anything wrong. 30 June 1950 Annie Pearl feeling bad. 17 December 1950 Annie Pearl feeling pretty bad. She rested all PM. 25 July 1951 Annie Pearl went to hospital for treatment of bladder trouble. Better. 5 May 1953 Annie Pearl woke up with bad hurting in right chest. Had Dr. Hare out. Went to hosp. with Mrs. C[rumpler]. Didn't find what was wrong. Hard day. Went to D[wight's] at night. A[nnie] P[earl] was not hurting so bad. 4 August 1953 Carried Annie Pearl to hospital for X-rays. Carried her to work. X-Rays didn't show anything to be fixed. 5 August 1953 Annie Pearl still hurting bad. 11 August 1953 Annie Pearl very sore in abdomen. Annie Pearl in bad shape. 14 August 1953 Carried Annie Peal to hospital and got in by 9. 15 August 1953 Went to see A.P. abdomen swelled & hurting. 16 August 1953 Carried M. to see A.P. Had tube thru nose to stomach and glucose being put in vein. Stayed all PM till 11. Drs. decided to operate. 17 August 1953
Went to Hosp. about 7:30. A.P. fixed for OR. Dr. Grimson started at 9:50. Found cancer in intestines on bladder and in liver -- sure death. Closed incision. AP in recovery room till 5:15. Woke up short time twice. Stayed till 11. Private nurse. 18 August 1953 Annie Pearl
feeling fair most of day. Thelma, Frank, Singer people came. Had X-ray therapy. Enema worked. Got nurse 11-7. Left at 11. 19 August 1953 Went to Hosp. A.P. had stomach tube out. Had X-ray therapy. She felt better and more cheerful all day. Had too much company. Had nurse from 11 on. 20 August 1953 Went to Hosp. 8:30. A.P. wasn't feeling so well. Too much excitement. Had three natural movements. Drank about 1800 cc liquids. Couldn't give Dextrose solution. Dick & I ate supper at Boyd's. Stayed at Hosp. till 11. A.P. felt better; but had much gas and pressure pains. 21 August 1953 Went to Hosp. AP had pretty good night. Abdomen swelled up pretty badly. Talked to Dr. some. ... Carried AP to second floor terrace in wheel chair. Ate supper at D[wight's]. Frank & F. came for about an hour. Rudolph & Dot came. D. Lottie & Mamie. Too much company. Left about 9 & came home. 22 August 1953 Lost a day somewhere. 23 August 1953 To Hosp at 7:05 AP feeling pretty well but rectum hurting - probably ca[ncer]. Left at 10:45 and went to Church. Joined Church. Ate dinner at Mamie's. Bill Art, Mallie, Iona, Rudolph came. Jack & Irene, Chick & Pat Came. Went to Dutchess Inn with them & ate supper. Stayed till 10:30 and came home. AP had to have another pain shot. Two enemas during day. No X-rays. No dextrose. 24 August 1953 AP had good night. Felt pretty good most of day. Took X-ray treatment. D. had yard mowed & cleaned up. He brought Scrappy & Skeeter up to Hosp. at 3:30 to see AP. Ate supper at Jack Rigsbee's. Went back to Hosp. and stayed till 10:30. AP feeling some gas pains. 27 August 1953 AP not feeling very well. ... AP slept a lot in P.M. I passed some blood twice during day. Had it examined. To get examination Mon. Ate supper at D. his birthday. Margaret & Louis Smith's wife came in PM. Rudolph came at night. D[wight] & L[ottie]. L[ucy] A[nne] & J[immy] came at night. Dick took exams in summer school. math. 28 August 1953 AP didn't feel well all day. Diarrhea still on. Can't eat much. No appetite. . . . Lucy Anne, Jimmy, Dwight, Dick & Shirley came by at night. Mrs. Kesterson came by in PM. Vomited about 400 cc at 11 o'clock. Came home at 11:15. 29 August 1953 Hosp. at 8. A.P. feeling better than Fri. . . . A.P. vomited all of lunch about three o'clock. Felt better till about 8:30. Got pain in r[igh]t back & had to have pain shot. Nurse came in at 10:50. Came home. 30 August 1953 Went to Hosp. A.P. feeling pretty well. Went to S.S. and then back to Hosp. Went to D. about one & ate dinner. Dick had auto in PM & at night. Stayed at Hosp till 10:45. AP feeling much better, but not eating much. Walked about 300 yds. at night. Frank & Frankie, Mattie Mae & Andy, Harold & Nell, Hagley Porter & Bula, & Mamie C. came during day. 31 August 1953 AP still sore some. . . . Carried Mrs. C. to hosp. & back to have old tooth root taken out. AP got permission to leave hosp. for a few hours at night so we went to D. Back at 9:30. Didn't seem to hurt her at once. 1 September 1953 A.P. feeling pretty well. Had X-ray treatment. Left at 2 PM & went home, then to see Mavor & Mamie. Ate good supper at D. Came by home & she slept an hour. Back to hosp at 9:45. 2 September 1953 Got to Hosp. at 8:45. AP had X-ray therapy. Ate lunch at D. AP not feeling too well, but we went to see cousin Bessie and then stopped by home till 4:45. Saw Dr. Grimson on rounds & made arrangements to leave Hosp. tomorrow. . . . AP had gas pains. Stayed with her till 11:30. No nurse. Sleeping. 3 September 1953 A.P. not feeling well all AM. Carried some of flowers & stuff from room home. Got some groceries. Got prescriptions & pills - 5.60. Saw Dr. Grimson & got cleared. 10 September 1953 Went to Hosp. and AP took X-ray on upper abdomen. . . . AP was very sick and vomited three times. Took paregoric & slept most of PM. 14 September 1953 Carried AP to Hosp. for her X-ray treatment. Made her stomach hurt. 15 September 1953 Went with AP to take X-ray treatment. . . AP hurting in abdomen. Vomited about 12 o'clock. Ate good supper. 17 September. Carried AP to X-ray & to see Dr. Rundles. Made her sick, but didn't vomit. 18 September AP had griping pains at night. 19 September 1953 AP still hurting. 20 September 1953 Carried Ap to Hosp. & she took x-ray treatment. Felt sick. Vomited 3 times. Sick all day. . . . AP still feeling bad. 23 September 1953 Carried AP to see Dr. Rundles about blood. No medicine. 25 September 1953 AP vomited. . . . AP feeling bad. 27 September 1953 AP not feeling well. 29 September 1953 AP right shoulder very sore. . . . AP very sleepy & arm still hurting. 30 September 1953 Saw Dr. Callaway and got AP to see him. Bladder infection again. 1 October 1953 AP taking 3 sets of pills & one liquid. Makes her dizzy & sleepy all the time. 17 November 1953 AP slept very well. no food or drink. Felt very well. Went to OR at 1:20. Started operation at 3:05 Found fissure and small ulcer near bottom of rectum. Nothing done with them. Took off largest hemorrhoid. Had hypo for pain. Clear chicken broth and lemonade for supper. 18 January 1954 AP feeling very sick. Vomited some feces. Went to Hosp. and saw Dr. Reeves and Dr. Grimson. Made arrangements for her to enter Hosp. Got in about 12:30. Had blood taken for tests. had abdomen X-ray made about 6. Showed gas in intestines, colon & stomach. Had suction tube put in stomach and took 2 liters of glucose by 11:45. LA cooked supper for us. AP feeling sick. 19 January 1954 AP had rested pretty well but tube in stomach was keeping her sick. Had X-ray taken about 2:30. Dr. Took out stomach tube about 5:30. She ate a little broth & ice cream, but vomited later. Took three quarts of glucose in vein between 4 & 11:30. Frankie came to see her. Dick worked all day. No exam. 21 January 1954 AP feeling pretty well. Took X-ray treatment. Ate some at all meals & drank about 1000 cc liquids during day. Did not vomit up till 10 PM. Mallie came to see her about 11. Carrie Cox came to see her. Shirley came in by bus at 9. Abdomen swelled tight - 35". Left at 10 o'clock. 23 January 1954 About five inches of snow on top of about an inch of sleet. Didn't try to run auto. Rode to Hosp. with Philip [Pickett]. AP feeling bad. had diarrhea about all day. Ate a little at each meal. Took one qt. of glucose at 6 PM. Vomited some. Had two hypos for pain. Dick carried me back at night. 24 January 1954 AP had trouble all day with diarrhea. Couldn't eat much all day. Took two shots for pain. Took one qt. of glucose at 4 o'clock. Dr. Grimson said that he would take fluid out tomorrow if we wished. Had lots of company. Stacy and Annie, Laurie, Iona, Rudolph, Dot, Mrs. Cunningham, D & L came to see her. [Dick & Shirley married in Chesterfield, SC.] 27 February 1954 Had a pretty bad day at Hosp. Stayed at Hosp most of day. Drs tried to give her shot to make her sleep. It made her restless & wild talking & moving. Gave her two more shots and she went completely out of her head for two hours. Had to tie her hands and feet to the bed. Finally a shot of morphine quieted her. Stayed pretty quiet. 28 February 1954 Felt very tired all morning. Wouldn't try to eat or drink anything. Felt very tired. Bill Art & Betty, Earl & W.A., Mallie, Frank & Frankie, Thelma, Mrs. C. & M[other] all came by Hosp to see her. She was in very bad shape. Took three bottles glucose. No BM in several days. L.A. & J stayed at Hosp. I slept about three hours. She had Mr. Smith come to see her. Said she was going to die. Hard wind & rain. 1 March 1954 AP feeling very low & disheartened. Vomited very often. Part fluid from a cancer in the stomach or throat, part bile. Her breath is very bad smelling - cancer smell. She took two quarts of glucose in PM. Mamie & Margaret came to see her. She had several bladder movements and vomited very often. LA wanted to stay at night so I came home to sleep some. 2 March 1954 AP feeling very bad & sore. Got shots. Vomiting cancer fluid for first time - either from throat or stomach. Much bile out from mouth. Told LA how she wanted to divide her things. Much vomiting & many bladder movements. Had IV. Many shots for pain & nausea. 3 March 1954 Felt a little better. Tried 10 times to get needle in vein for glucose. Got in right foot, but it wouldn't take. Made foot swell. Had pain shots. Felt better. Had too much company. She got delirious and used three boxes of wipettes in 3 hours wiping vomit from her mouth and tongue. Had glucose started in tissue of inner thighs. 4 March 1954 Still delirious. Mind won't work clearly. Respiration 6 per minute. pulse too weak & irregular to be counted accurately. Temperature below normal. Started eating lunch and ate about an ounce of things and 250 cc., ice tea & water. Rested pretty quietly. Dr. G says that she is in a comfortable coma and won't live over 48 hours. 5 March 1954 Lower end of spine getting sore from lying on it too much. Got pad under her wet during night. Resp. up to 14, pulse irregular. Drank some water - no food. Several bladder movements. Resp. up to 11, pulse down to 25 at 1 o'clock. Throat hurting. Several shots. Dixie [Suitt Rigsbee] stayed all night. Pulse 70 & respiration 5 at 9:45. 6 March 1954 Felt much better this morning. Ate a little bit. Sat on edge of bed some. Lay down and began to talk out of her head. Had shot of morphine at 11:30, but talked louder. Another shot. Louder talk. 3rd shot - whispering, 4th shot - mumbling, 5th shot mumbling, 6 - quiet & rolling head & eyes & clenching hands. Became quieter and breathing dropped to 5 or 6 per minute. Went to waiting room & slept. 7 March 1954 Rudolph woke me up at 1:30 & said that AP had stopped breathing. Went to room and she was dead. Stayed till they carried her to morgue. Dixie Rigsbee was there. Cleared out room and went home. Lucy Anne and Jimmy stayed at house. Went to bed about 4 AM. Didn't sleep much. Went to hospital and saw body after it was opened up at autopsy. Was full of cancer in organs. 11 March 1954 Went to grave & put birthday card on it. . . . 26 March 1954 . . . had long talk with Reverend Smith. The Dorcas class is going to change name to "The Annie Pearl Memorial Class." 28 March 1954 Went to Sunday School. Mr. Smith announced changing of class name to A.P. Memorial Class. 30 March 1954 Dr. Margolis showed & explained AP organs to me. All lower parts were grown together so they couldn't be separated. All tumors were on outside of organs except some in liver. She didn't have a chance. Went to preaching at night.

Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Pearl Crumpler Pickett, 47, wife of Henry Floyd Pickett of 2506 Cornwallis Road, will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Yates Baptist Church. The Rev. Charles F. Smith , pastor, and the Rev. C.E. Byrd, pastor of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, annex B.
The body will be moved to the church to lie in state one hour before service.
Pallbearers will be Boyd Brogden, Jimmy Lyon, J. Jack Rigsbee, Gus Hargrove, and Elon Clark, all of Durham, Stacy Crumpler of Salemburg, Howard Cox of Orange County, and Cecil Butler of Fayetteville.
Floral bearers will be members of all the women's classes of the Yates Baptist Church Sunday School.
Mrs. Pickett, died at Duke Hospital at 1:25 a.m. yesterday. She had been a patient at the hospital for two weeks.
Born and reared in Cumberland County, [sic] Mrs. Pickett was the daughter of Robert M. Crumpler and Mrs. Minnie Core Crumpler. She attended Sampson County schools, graduated in 1924 from Salemburg High School, and attended Pineland Junior College and Eastern Carolina Teachers College one year each. After completing her academic education, she taught school for three years.
For the past 25 years Mrs. Pickett had lived in Durham in the Yates Baptist Church community. Upon moving to Durham she became affiliated with the Yates Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for the past 10 years. She also was teacher of the Dorcus Sunday School Class until recently when she resigned because of ill health.
Mrs. Pickett in recent years had been a sewing instructor at the Singer Sewing Machine Company here.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Mrs. J.P. Terrell; one son, Richard C. Pickett; one granddaughter, Deborah Ann Terrell; her mother, Mrs. Minnie Crumpler, all of Durham; two sisters, Mrs. Bruce Maxwell of Stedman and Mrs. J.D. McDuffie of Durham; and two brothers, B. Frank Crumpler of Raleigh and William A. Crumpler of Roseboro. She was a talented musician. She played the banjo, piano, and mandolin. She worked for three years at Singer Sewing Machine Company in Durham, NC. She worked as a Census Taker in the 1950 U.S. Census.

Founder of the Bally shoe house and author of the memoirs from which all four of
these charts are taken. First cousin of Otto, Alfred and Bruno Wyser through the
Herzog sisters.
His annal for 1862 contains the entry "14. November: Bruno Wyser verreiste nach
Montevideo" (memoirs p. 153) - the line that fixed Bruno Wyser's departure.
In June 1863 his elastics director Otto Wyser proposed working through the feast
of SS Peter and Paul; Pastor Schumacher came to the Ferggstube and threatened to
preach against it, then returned with two more priests. In Feb 1864 Carl Franz's
uncle Aloys Wyser wrote him the warning letter glued into the manuscript between
folios I.170 and I.171.
In Sept 1870, ill and taking iron water at forty-nine, he resolved within three
days of Ernst Quincke's "war of life and death" letter to found his own house at
Montevideo. Chapalay and Schnurrenberger landed there on 7 Nov 1870.

John Crumpler died Feb. 23, 1830 and his death is listed in the Fayetteville Observer. Margaret Gurley was from Wayne County and is identified in a Wayne County Deed. There is no mistake about who she is. Deed book 12 page 368 has information about John Crumpler. This is a Sampson County deed. There is quite a bit of information about this John Crumpler in the deed books, all of it can not be understood. He apparently went broke about 1828 and lost some property. It appears that one of his friends bought it back and gave it to him.
John Crumpler Sr. married Sarah Holmes....I did not know that and I agree that it is correct. I have reviewed some family names.
